Not all animals make great pets. That’s true. Of course, you don’t want to have an elephant in your back yard or an ostrich inside your living room, do you?

Seriously now, this is a more exaggerated way of describing how people often make the mistake of choosing the wrong pet. There’s more to choosing which pet is best for you, other than simply adoring the way it looks.

Here is a checklist of four of the most common pets found in homes and how you can choose one that’s compatible for you.

Dogs- adapts easily to new environments. They want to belong to your family. Dogs are trainable, can be trained easily. Dogs are very loyal. They need space to move around.

Cats- very flexible and can adjust to any living space easily. They often keep themselves clean and tidy. They love to sleep during the day and love to play.

Fish- one of the easiest pets to have. Tanks and bowls need to be cleaned regularly to make them stay healthy.

Birds- they can be taught tricks and can learn to speak. They do not require too much space. However, birds can be noisy at times.
